MEET KIRSTEN M.POULSEN - A LIFETIME DEDICATION TO MENTORING
“For more than 25 years, I have worked with organisations around the world to make mentoring a powerful driver of leadership development, talent growth and inclusion.
I founded KMP+ House of Mentoring in 2000 and developed the Mentor+™ Approach, a research-based methodology that helps organisations create mentoring programmes with lasting impact. Today, mentors and mentees from more than 30 countries have participated in programmes based on this approach – and more than 15,000 have been trained with the Mentor+Game™.
I am the author of several books and articles on mentoring and leadership development, and I regularly speak at international conferences and events. I also served as External Professor at Copenhagen Business School from 2010 to 2018.
My passion has always been helping people and organisations grow through meaningful developmental relationships.
What continues to inspire me is the connection between individual development and organisational success – how mentoring can support people in achieving their potential while helping organisations build capability, strengthen culture and deliver on their strategic ambitions.
Whether I’m working with global organisations, leadership teams or programme managers, my goal is the same: to create mentoring experiences that make a real difference for individuals and organisations alike.”

Let’s create successful mentoring together
Whether you are looking to develop leaders, support talent, strengthen inclusion or build a mentoring culture, I would be delighted to explore how mentoring can help you achieve your goals.
25 years of shaping Modern Mentoring
How it started
When I founded KMP+ House of Mentoring in 2000, mentoring was primarily viewed as a way for experienced professionals to pass on knowledge and advice to less experienced colleagues.
While knowledge sharing remains important, I have always believed that mentoring can achieve far more. At its best, mentoring is a learning partnership that accelerates development, strengthens collaboration and creates value for individuals, teams and organisations alike.
Over the past 25 years, I have seen mentoring evolve in exactly this direction.
Modern Mentoring
Today, the most successful mentoring relationships are built on mutual learning, reflection, challenge and growth. Mentoring is no longer simply about sharing experience. It helps people develop new perspectives, make better decisions and realise their potential, while strengthening networks, knowledge sharing and organisational capability.
This is what I call Modern Mentoring.
This evolution has shaped my work and led to the development of the Mentor+™ Approach – a research-based methodology that combines proven mentoring principles, practical tools and real-world experience.
It has been used by organisations across sectors and cultures to strengthen leadership, accelerate talent development and support organisational change.
Throughout my career, I have worked closely with researchers, international organisations and mentoring practitioners to ensure that every programme is grounded in evidence and designed for impact.
My goal has always been to bridge the gap between research and practice, making mentoring meaningful for participants and valuable for organisations.
My view of mentoring
I define successful mentoring as a learning partnership that creates value for mentors, mentees and the organisation.
For organisations, mentoring is a strategic tool that strengthens leadership, develops future talent and fosters collaboration across boundaries.
For mentors and mentees, it provides an opportunity to gain new insights, challenge assumptions, broaden perspectives and accelerate personal and professional growth.
Effective mentoring creates value far beyond the mentoring partnership itself. It contributes to organisational learning, stronger networks and long-term organisational success.
This is why I view mentoring not only as a development activity, but as a strategic investment in people, relationships and organisational capability.
